Can't start MSSQLServer services.
I am trying to start MSSQLServer then it came up with "The MSSQLSERVER
services on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop
automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs
and Alerts services." message. The service is using local computer account
to start. Where should I start to trouble shooting this problem? I will be
appreciated your tips and information.
Thanks,
Johnny Chow
Johny,
Are you using EM, Control Panel - Services or the Sevices Applet to start
the service? Might try using the local system account as a test to ensure
the service can start then check the permissions of the local account you
are using. Are there any informational errors reported in the application
event log?
A couple of things to look at.

|||Hi,
I tried both of them. I check the application event log file and found out
the evaluation copy period is over. I am using KB 281574 to upgrade to the
retail. One question is how are we going to dinstinquish between eval and
retail version? I suspected we have a couple of server running evals.
Thank you in advance,

cant open databases folder
connecting to a remote SQL server over the Internet. I can log into
the server just fine and see 7 folders including the 'Databases'
folder. I can open up all of the other 6 folders but for some crazy
reason when I double click on the 'Databases' folder, I can't open it!
The hourglass appears and Enterprise Manager basically locks up. Does
anyone know what's going on???
Please email response to nkulshresh@.hotmail.com as well as posting to

It could be that autoclose is turned for one or more databasees. Connect
with Query Analyzer, and run an sp_help and check the options columns.
Also check that you have not enabled ODBC tracing on your machine.

Can't install SQL 200 Enterprise Edition!!!!
Hi ,
I can't install SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edtion on my computer.
The error message shows that 'Operating System doesn't not support for this version.....'
What's the cause of this error?
My computer is already connected to LAN.
Can anybody help?
Any help is appreciated..
Thanks.

What's the cause of this error?
The partial error message spells it out clearly - you're trying to install Enterprise Edition on a non-supported OS. See Books Online to find out which OS's support Enterprise Edition.
Can I guess you have XP?
|||yes..I've Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
But I've installed Enterprise Edition with XP once before.
Thanks.
Julia
|||Enterprise Edition is not supported on Windows XP. See Books Online topic "Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2000".
Maybe you installed the Enterprise Evaluation edition on Windows XP, which is supported.
|||I see.
Thanks for your answer.

Can't get SP3a installed
update. Here's what SELECT @.@.VERSION returns:
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.194 (Intel X86) Aug 6 2000 00:57:48
Copyright (c) 1988-2000 Microsoft Corporation Developer Edition on Windows
NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)
According to the MS web site, this is the original installation version. I
downloaded all 3 of the files at the end of the "Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Service Pack 3a" page, and followed the instructions and installed
sql2ksp3.exe first, then installed sql2kasp3.exe. I stopped the services,
and restarted the services, and SELECT @.@.VERSION still returns the same
exact thing as what is listed above. What did I do wrong here?
Thanks,
JesseHi
After running sql2ksp3.exe (it extracts to a directory), did you run the
setup.bat to install the SP?
Did the setup.bat run with errors?
