Can't start SSIS

Hello,

Our enterprise have bought a sql server 2005 standard edition.
Before installing it i have installed the beta version.
And after I desinstalled this beta version (with difficulties).
But the problem is that I can't start SSIS.

I have the following message:
"The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion.
Consult event log or other applicable error logs for details.
"

Please can you help me.
Thanks.

You should really format the machine and reinstall the OS, especially if you had an early beta. The fact that you had problems cleaning it up would be a clear indication to me that you should do that more than ever.

Are there any errors in the event log, as the message directs?

Have you applied SP1? There is an issue with starting the service with that.

|||If you have installed SP1, please review this KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918644|||

Thanks!!!
In fact I haven't installed the SP1 because the SP1 I have seen is only for express edition (I have the standard edition)!!
For the event log I haven't seen it yet!! I'll try to do it Monday.

PS:
One thing I remembered during the installation is that all the system requirements were not OK.I didn't have errors but there were 2 warnings(i don't remember them)!! .

May be it will be that!!Or it will be because I haven't installed SP1 (if you know where I can download it please indicate me ).

Thanks for comments!!!

taze wrote:

The SP1 can be downloaded http://www.microsoft.com/sql/sp1.mspx, but I don't think it will fix this particular issue.

I join Darren's advice to reinstall the OS if earlier it had any beta builds.

|||Thank U very much for your advice!!!
I will try reinstall SQL Server 2005 in a new machine wirhout any SQL 2005 beta version!!!
Thanks!!!

Can't Start SS Business Intelligence installed from SS 2005 Express Edition Toolkit

I downloaded and installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit. Installs completed successfully, and I can launch the SS Management Studio, but when I launch SS Business Intelligence Development Studio, I get message saying "Windows is searching for devenv.exe". When I search for this file I don't find it on my hard drive.

I thought I'd reinstall the SS Express Edition Toolkit, but I can't find this application in the Control Panel Installed Programs list, so I can't uninstall it.

Any ideas as to how I can get SS Business Intelligence Studio working?

Hey Probie,

Individual SQL components are all listed in Add/Remove Programs under Microsoft SQL Server 2005. You have to launch the main app maintenance mode and then select the component you want to remove, in this case the Workstation Tools, an go from there.

It does look like something went wrong with the installation of the VS shell that BIDS uses, so uninstall is a likely first step.

Probie,

Do you have visual studio 2003 installed?

I had the same problem and it seemed related to VS2003:

Thanks for this information Lacan. Probie, let us know if this works for you.

Hello,

I am having the same problem as probie. Although BIDS shows in my programs menu, it does not appear as a component in Add/Remove programs neither will it run when accessed via the start menu.

Does anyone know if there is a way to resolve this issue?

Cheers,

sfx

|||

sfx1,

Did you already try what I had suggested via the link above?

(unzip the files from the SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.EXE and launch the vs_setup.msi directly under the exposed \setup folder)?

When you say that it won't run, do you mean that the devenv.exe is not found? If so, please try what I suggested and see if it installs the devenv for you. If it doesn't work, try running that package vs_setup.msi with logging and see what the log says.

Regards,

Lacan

|||

Hi Lacan,

Thank you for your reply. Did you happen to install the SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.EXE prior to running the vs_setup.msi or did you just install the vs_setup.msi by itself?

Thanks again,

sfx1

|||

I believe the last time, I had tried to install everything gtom sqlexpr_toolkit.exe FIRST, and when the shortcut to BIDS did not work, I started exploring and found the vs_setup.msi and ran that.

It installed BIDS correctly, then I was able to start designing reports. Good question, and I should have been more explicit about the order. Thanks

Regards,

-Lacan

|||

Hi Lacan,

Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. I will give your suggestions a go. :)

Cheers,

sfx1

|||

Lacan,

I found the vs_Setup.msi in the setup folder of SQLxpress Tools.exe. Ran the setup

(there is no indication that the vs_setup is running, but when I checked Processes in task manager, msiexec.exe was using CPU) ,

after setup ended, voila! devene.exe was in the IDE folder, and BIDS opened successfully.

Thanks for your help.

probie

|||

I didn't get any indication that setup was running either. The package just seemed to sound like it was responsible for the devenv part of it so I ran it as an experiment and the same occurred for me.

I'm glad it worked out.

-Lacan

Can't start SQL 2000 after MS Update

Hi,
I recently installed several Windows Updates and security
patches. Now the SQL Server on my XP Pro development
machine won't start. The only message box that I get
when trying to restart is a message box:
SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Any clues on how to fix this? I can't seem to find any
other references to this problem.
Regards,
DougSQL Server does not exist or access denied is a generic error message for a
failed connection.
If the MSSQLServer service is not started, then this makes sense.
Try running : Net start MSSQLServer
Check the account you're using to start MSSQLServer.

Verify that the MSSQLServer service is running / started.

restoring your Windows XP to a previous state prior to the installation of
Windows patches. You can do this using System Restore of Windows XP.
Or, you can uninstall the patch(es) you had installed.
Or, try running sqlservr.exe from the command line and see if it generates a

cant start services

Sorry for the newbie question here:

I've just installed VS.NET and have installed MSDE. All has gone well so far. I followed the instructions for setting a db password during install and the installer seemed to do its job. The SQL Server Service Manager runs in the taskbar when I reboot but the status icon is a white circle... The status bar indicates that it is not connected.

How do I connect to the server?Sorry guys... I found the answer to my own question...

had to set the server to <myComputerName>\VSDOTNET

Like I said... NEWBIE question!

Cant start report server

Hey all. I'm using SQL server Express and I've installed the Report service. When I go into the reporting services configuration manager and I want to start the service, the system won't let me. Here is the error

System.ServiceProcess.TimeoutException: Time out has expired and the operation has not been completed.
at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceController.WaitForStatus(ServiceControllerStatus desiredStatus, TimeSpan timeout)
at ReportServicesConfigUI.Panels.ServerInformationPanel.StartStopServiceTask(Boolean start)

I just can't seem to be able to start the service.

Can you plz help?

Thanks

Hi,

Based on my understanding, this error message is caused by the permission issue. You should take a look at the Report Server logs, and make sure you are configuring locally and you are administrator on the machine. And re-modify your reporting service configuration in the following way:

1. Created ReportService database using Report Service Configuration
2. Edited your personal account to Web Service Account in rsreportserver.config
3. Used rsconfig utility to encrypt the connection and account information
4. Edited your personal account to <processModel userName=" " >

If the problem still exists, you should try the following methods.

Set the Report Server Web service and Report Manager to use the same application pool.

|||

Thank you for your answer. But how can I create a reportservice database if I can't connect to the service?

++ Where do I go to

Set the Report Server Web service and Report Manager to use the same application pool.

Add the security account to the SQLServer2005ReportingServicesWebServiceUser$InstanceName group that you use for the application pool identity.

can't start mssqlserver

I installed a copy of SQL server 2005 on a Win 2003 machine. I connected remotely from another machine and started Sql Server Configuration manager. The MSSQLServer is stopped. So, I click to start and it failed. The error it gave me was that it time out. I am new to SQL 2005 and I thought the next step after installing was to configure. Can anyone help me please.

Check in the SQL Server log file for any info. If SQL received the startup request, the log will show why the timeout occurred. Presumably there was a configuration problem that caused startup to fail.

Also check the network configuration. I believe local connections require shared memory to be enabled.

|||Hi, in addition to the aother post, try to make a snapshot of your event log if you can't figure out the problem and send the appropiate parts (like starting the service which breaks) to this forum again.

Can't Send mail using MultiServer Admin

Hi,

I have a Master server which I want to use to handle jobs for our Production Servers. the master server has Outlook installed but the Target servers do not. I need to find a way to get the job to send a mail confirming whether the job has succeeded or failed but without having a mail client installed on any of the target servers. Currently the actual backups do run but the send mail section fails with the following error.

xp_sendmail: Procedure expects parameter @.user, which was not supplied. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 17985). The step failed.

I can't see any parameter @.User on BOL, it may be that using sendmail is not the best way foward here

Any ideas anyone?

Hi, I had this problem when I migrated my server to new hardware. I had not yet set up the Outlook account which SQL Server uses to send the mail on the new hardware. Cant see sql express in vwd2005

I've installed vwd2005 and sql express, I'm trying to setup a database connection but the sql server doesnt appear in the drop down list. I've checked that the service is running and that the browser service is running too.

Can't see new objects created in SQL Server from C#

We have just installed SQL and C# Express. We have lots of experience with SQL, but none with C#. With both the SQL and C# apps running; if we create a new table, view etc, we cannot see that new object from C# only the objects that existed when we opened the apps for the first time (each time).

If we close everything and re-open everything from scratch, the new objects show..!?!?

Thank you for any information on this difficult problem.

Hard to tell without knowing which technique youuse to display the objects and if there is eventually somehow a caching mechanism involved. Could you post some code which does the retrieval ?

Hi, I just installed SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 (Act as DNS and DHCP server for the network). When I tried to access it from my workstation (Windows XP Pro), using SQL Server Management Studio, theres no list of Network Server available. Anything that I should configure first?

Hi,

Can't see D partition

I have SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 installed on a XP machine. The machine has one
physical drive divided into 5 partitions. When I choose to backup or restor
e
I can only see C and E partitions but not the D partition. All three are
NTFS partitions.
Thanks in advance.
JohnI found the problem, but don't understand why. The D partition did not have
the Everyone group define to read the drive, however other groups as well as
myself specifically have rights to it. Why does the group Everyone need to
have read in order to see it?

Probably a permissions issue. What happens if you use the BACKUP
DATABASE command to send a backup to that volume?

When you run a backup, it's going to be run within the context of the
user that SQL Server is running under, NOT your personal login. Check
the service account for the SQL Server service, if that user doesn't
have rights to see the D: partition, then it's not going to show up in
your GUI.

Can't see content tab or properties tab.

An administrator installed reporting services. I went to the url to the
report manager, I cannot see anything on the home page, no tabs at all. How
do I set it up to show me these tabs?
Thanks,
Rick.Log into the machine locally as a member of the local administartor's group.
You'll be able to assign permissions either using the SiteSettings-->Manage
site wide security or through the properties tab
