Can't start SSIS

Hello,

Our enterprise have bought a sql server 2005 standard edition.
Before installing it i have installed the beta version.
And after I desinstalled this beta version (with difficulties).
But the problem is that I can't start SSIS.

I have the following message:
"The request failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion.
Consult event log or other applicable error logs for details.
"

Please can you help me.
Thanks.

You should really format the machine and reinstall the OS, especially if you had an early beta. The fact that you had problems cleaning it up would be a clear indication to me that you should do that more than ever.

Are there any errors in the event log, as the message directs?

Have you applied SP1? There is an issue with starting the service with that.

|||If you have installed SP1, please review this KB article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918644|||

Thanks!!!
In fact I haven't installed the SP1 because the SP1 I have seen is only for express edition (I have the standard edition)!!
For the event log I haven't seen it yet!! I'll try to do it Monday.

PS:
One thing I remembered during the installation is that all the system requirements were not OK.I didn't have errors but there were 2 warnings(i don't remember them)!! .

May be it will be that!!Or it will be because I haven't installed SP1 (if you know where I can download it please indicate me ).

Thanks for comments!!!

The SP1 can be downloaded http://www.microsoft.com/sql/sp1.mspx, but I don't think it will fix this particular issue.

I join Darren's advice to reinstall the OS if earlier it had any beta builds.

|||Thank U very much for your advice!!!
I will try reinstall SQL Server 2005 in a new machine wirhout any SQL 2005 beta version!!!
Thanks!!!

Can't run rskeymgmt after SP2

After installing SP2 for SQL 2005 I can no longer run rskeymgmt. I was
trying to backup the encryption key
(rskeymgmt -e -fc:\rsdbkey.txt -ppassword) but I get the following error:
The Report Server Windows service in not responding to RPC requests. The
service may not be running.
I have checked and the service is running. Are there any issues with SP2?On Apr 5, 1:21 pm, "Tim Kelley" <tkel...@.company.com> wrote:

cant login into lcoal when installing time tracker starter kit..

During the istall of the issue tracker starter kit, im prompted ti select the type of DB. If I select MSACCESS, all is good

I have " Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services" installed

If I select Microsoft SQL Server/MSDE 2000 I get the following

1) Sql Server ( I select local)

2) connect using

a) Windows authentication - WhenI do this I get the error message "Login Failure: could not loginto server (local)"

b) SQL Server authtication - WhenI do this I get the error message "Login Failure: could not loginto server (local)"

Please Please help me. I have to get this going or I'm mud !!! actually , less than mud

The error message seems to be customized and you may need to find the original exception that came from .NET. However if you haven't enabled remote connections for the SQL Express instance, try to enable this option in SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.

Cant install SQL Server 05 EE, VB 2005, or Visual Web Dev 2005

hi! i just joined this group today after a colleague told me about it.
anyway, i'm new to SQL and haven't tried installing any version of it.
I do have vb 6.0 though on my pc. My problem is that I can't install
SQL server 05 EE, VB 2005 or VW 2005. I have downloaded all of the
installer from the Microsoft site as well as the dotnetfix which is
supposed to install the .net framework 2.0.

whenever i try to install SQL server EE, it is telling me that it has
found beta components. but i don't have any beta versions of SQL. I
tried uninstalling my Vb 6.0 thinking its causing the error, but same
thing happened.

The next thing I did is I uninstall my .net 2.0 and when i try to
install VB or VW 2005, i got to the step where it is trying to download
the .net framework 2.0 but it is taking so long. Question: is the
dotnetfix.exe which installed .net 2.0, different from the .net 2.0
that the setup.exe of VB2005 will download? if yes, may i know if there
is a direct site where i can manually download and install it so the
VB2005 will just skip that part and go on with the installation?

When i downloaded the exe files for SQL, .net 2.0, VB and VW, i did
select the SAVE option and saved them on my external mini hard drive so
I can install it at home. Does that make any difference? could that
cause the error?

pretty clear that i am a newbie with this stuff and i never thought
that it would be this hassle to install them heheheh any help, in a
detailed way if possible, would highly be appreciated.

thanks so much!

EE = Express Edition or Enterprise Edition?

I can't speak for Visual Basic, but once installed, in
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework you should have a directory v2.0.50727.
If you have a lower number, that is a beta version.

Did you ever install a beta of Visual Studio 2005? Apparently you did
install the beta of something since you get the message. And that would be
a beta of SQL 2005, .Net Fx or VS 2005.

Hm, if the install is that fresh, then it the easiest way would be
to start over again, and then start with installing .Net Fx followed
by SQL Server, and then Visual Basic and Visual Web Developer. (But
avoid the other junk you usually cram in. :-)

Can't Install SQL 2000 service pack 4

We are having trouble installing SQL2000 service pack 4 on our server. The package runs through and looks like it installs files to c:\, but the install never asks us for any of the questions regarding the install of service pack 4. One issue we were thinking about was that MSDE was installed on the server also. We have a 2003 server with SQL 2000 sp3 (8.00.760)

Are you running this through a command line or through the UI? If it is command line, can you supply the command line you are running?

Thanks,
Sam Lester (MSFT)

Can't Install Express because .Net Framework 2 is installed! I'm going around in circles.

I'm new to SQL Express and from the SQL Express DOWNLOAD page you need to install .NET Framework 2 then install SQL Express. After installing .NET Framework 2.0 I then attempt to install SQL Express and I get a message that SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework or SQL Server 2005. I used the Visual Studio removal tool and it took out .NET Framwork. I re-installed this and did a reboot and get the SAME ISSUE! CAN ANYONE GET ME OUT OF THIS MS loop nightmare.

Thanks! Jeff

Make sure that you uninstalled any beta-versions of SQLServer 2005 / VS / The Framework and other beta products that might have shipped the .NET 2.0 beta along with them. THen run the removal tool. THis should clean out every reference to the assemblies and evidences.

HTH, Jens K. Suessmeyer.

http://www.sqlserver2005.de|||Thanks Jens but this is a clean Win Pro 2K wkstation that NEVER had any of these products, BETA or live installed. When I ran the removal tool it took .NET 2 off and I tried to the SQL xpress install and it wanted .NET 2K. Could the site that I downloaded it from have been BETA? I would guess not as I saw no reference to it and it was a link right off the SQL Express site that mentioned I needed this first anyway. I'm still baffled. I also looked at a full SQL Server 2005 disk from MS and it also wanted the same .NET 2 loaded before an install. I only need SQL Express for the app. I'm running. Thanks Jeff|||

This issue has been answered several times in this forum. Check out my answer to this post for example.

Thanks Mike for some direction. Again this was a clean O/S and I was simply following the instructions on the SQL Express page with no luck. I looked at the logs as you suggested and saw no real issue. Here is the summary. I looked at each log file and do not see what is causing the fuss other than an additiona of .42 to the end of the version of .NET. So I uninstalled .NET again and re-downloaded it from the same site and re-installed it and behold all is well.

Loaded DLL:C:\WINNT\system32\msi.dll Version:3.1.4000.2435
Product "{44568A1C-53F6-49A5-A163-CD9ADC0F76D5}" versioned 2.0.50727 is not compatible with current builds of SQL Server.Expected at least version: 2.0.50727.42

Why the old version is still floating on the links to SQL Express is yet another MS mystery to solve, GFL. I really did search the forum and did not see any answers to this. Thanks again, your log viewing saved the day! Jeff

Cant get SQL Server Express to install

I'm using the disk that came with my Visual Web Developer for Dummies book. It installed on my XP Home machine, but when installing on my XP Pro machine, the fourth step, SQL Server Express, it fails. I cleaned up my hard drive (about ten gigs of free space), I followed the steps herehttp://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/support/readme/default.aspx to uninstall everything dot net related. Rebooted, checked my control panel, etc. Tried to install. It just fails. No error message.

Can anyone give me an idea of where to start?

Thanks

Try to install the version on msdn rather then on the CD and see if it works. Here is the link for the download.

Ha ha ha. Never quit.

Banging my head against the wall, or trying to get this thing to work?

I was thinking about my gov't issued perpetual virus scan, and thought I'd disable it. And then some time ago I had to do something (that never worked) regarding permissions to the INETPUB folder. And another source also suggested a direct download. Which is what I'll try next. I think I'll try it first in the 'repair' mode if it's available (as it is on the disk - it recognizes that the first three options installed properly and offers up the fourth).

|||

Success!

I had already disabled the virus scan, and so don't know if that had anything to do with it. But the download of just the SQL Server says it was successful. My dot net 2.0 framework was detected (it must be installed first), and it sailed thru like it should have in the first place.

As I think I mentioned in my first post, installation on my other laptop (wife's) with XP Home went perfect from the disk. A little weird that my old standby wouldn't work with it, but I'll accept it. And get started with what appears to be some very cool stuff.

|||I came across an issue on installing. When operating from the disk in the Visual Web Developer for Dummies book, the SQL Server just failed. No messages. When downloading from MicroSoft, I got a message that the c:\program files\microsoft sql server folder couldn't be compressed. So, while that message was up, I went thru explorer to change the properties of it. More than a few times, exe and dll files came up that were in use and couldn't be uncompressed. I finally hit the ignore all button and hoped for the best. When it was finished, I went back to the installation routine and hit continue. And it appears to have worked.
